Now it’s time to get back in the word-churning groove with this full week of activities:
MONDAY
Go on a hand-written stream of consciousness, writing until your hand muscles can take it no longer, following on from these words: “December always promises…”
TUESDAY
Read Zhagaram’s beautifully-written website, then decide if the small entry fee makes it worth submitting.
WEDNESDAY
Read Penguin’s guide to getting published.
THURSDAY
Learn how to write a non-fiction book proposal with advice from Jane Friedman.
FRIDAY
Go somewhere and look at the trees. Write 100-words of description, or inner monologue, about the seasonal changes they are going through.
SATURDAY
Think of a bus. Five seats across the back, destination Addis Ababa. Create and flesh out five characters sitting across the row of seats. None of them know each other, all are from different countries. Get into one of their heads and write their descriptions of the other four.
SUNDAY
Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem or a micro-play containing the following three elements:
A teapot
Laddered tights
A mother-in-law
Good luck!
